Well, to refinish the rocker you have to get some glazing. Preferably go to a hardware store like Home Depot and you can choose what kind of glazing you need based on the color and the coating. The glazing gives it that great finish that the furniture will need in the long run.

Determine whether the rocker needs refinishing by cleaning with oil soap. Apply refinisher to the chair and use steel wool to remove the old finish. Wipe with clean rags. Work slowly and carefully. When all of the old finish has been removed, apply polyurethane varnish. Allow to dry completely between coats.

First you need to clean the rocker with clean rags and Murphy's oil soap. Then apply refinisher with steel wool in small areas at a time. Apply polyurethane once the old finish is removed and the refinisher has evaporated completely.

Remove the old paint or finish with a medium grit sandpaper. With a foam brush apply the new finish. Watch for drips. Let dry for atleast 24 hours.

It is not a very difficult process to refinish an antique rocker. You just need to sand it down and seal it.

The chair must be stripped with a heavy-body furniture stripper using 0 grade steelwool, sanded with 100 grit paper, and then repaired,if needed. Stain is then applied by rag or brush, let dry, and then 2 coats of a clear lacquer or urethane finish, sanding between coats with 200 grit paper. Final sanding with 400 grit paper.
