Assonance is a term usually used in commenting poems and refers to a repeat of the same sounds over and over again in one or more verses, sometimes throughout the entire poem, thus achieving a beautiful effect also known as euphonia. A variation of assonance is alliteration, a repeat of only consonants.

It's the repetition of vowel sounds, generally in a line of poetry. My English teacher used this line by Emily Dickenson as an example: a floor too cool for corn.
