A typical running pace depends on the runner's conditioning. A very good runner can maintain a 6 minute mile. Other runners would have a hard time running a mile at all. A good first goal for beginning runners is to run a mile in 8 minutes or less and then improve from there.

I started running about four months ago. I can now run a mile in just over nine minutes. I've read that good runners average seven to ten minutes. Less than that and you're an athlete. More than that and you're a jogger.

You need to get into a pace that you feel comfortable with. I my self like to run fast. I have a drive in me to beat everyone on the track. Some people like to run slow. This depends on your physical shape, weight, age and if you have any health problems.
