If you are talking about salary, then most companies pay biweekly or monthly. IC projects are typically done with net-30 which means 30 days. Some companies even use net-60 but its probably harder for them to get contractors due to those unfavorable terms.

If you are doing day labor, you should be paid that day, since you may not be coming back to the site. If you work for a whole week, then receiving the paycheck the next week is reasonable. If you are a permanent employee, then receiving your paycheck the next pay cycle after you started work is reasonable.

This varies greatly depending on the type of work you are doing. Normally wages are paid biweekly. However, some people receive a check just once a month, but waitresses keep their tips every day. Contracted workers can receive a portion of pay before they start, and the rest when finished.

Different states have varying laws on how quickly an employer has to pay someone for work. Regardless, employers and employees should have an agreement on how frequently pay will be given before work begins. If no such agreement exists, it is not unreasonable to expect monthly pay.
