It could be speakers or even headphones. Pretty much what ever it is you're using at the moment to output sound. You could have multiple sound devices if you have more then one connected. You could have speakers connected to the back audio port and headphones on the front allowing you to listen through both simultaneously.

This is your sound card, or any audio device that is attached to your computer. Generally these are plug and play, however not all devices are compatible
