Yes. Sodium Ion in water is used to treat hard water which is an excess of calcium in your water. Adding sodium ion to water will make soaps lather better and make it easier to wash your clothes. Simply put adding sodium ions reduces the amount of calcium.

The water will bubble violently and generate heat. It doesn't help at all because it ignites an explosion if not careful.
