If you leave your clothes in the washer too long, they will get mildewed and smelly. How long is too long depends on the humidity where you live. Leaving the clothes in the washer overnight is okay, but a few days... yuck!

If materials, like clothing, are left wet in a confined place, like a washer, mold will begin to grow and the clothing will be unwearable. It is better to leave we clothing in the washer for a maximum of 12 hours so that the clothing will not become moldy. Air out clothing at the first sign of mold.
