High levels of bilirubin in bile and urine causes jaundice. The reason for this condition is, liver not being able to adequately remove excess bilirubin, in time. The most common reasons are, blockage in bile duct, liver cirrhosis, acute hepatitis or inherited problems with bilirubin processing. In adults normal bilirubin count should be between 20 to 30.
