Aloha is a Hawai'ian word that is used to mean both "Hello" and "Goodbye." It has many other meanings such as affection, peace, love, mercy, and compassion. You can expect to be greeted with by someone saying this and presenting you with a lei when entering the Aloha State, Hawai'i.

Getting presented with a lei is only for those people that arrive on a package tour. If you just get an airplane ticket to hawaii, you are not going to be greeted with a hula-skirt wearing local offering to drape your neck with a lei.  add a comment

A very nice Hawai'ian greeting, mostly meaning Hello. I suppose it would be comparable to Italian "Chao". You can hear Aloha everywhere in Hawaii.

It is comparative to the English word Hello and means love. It is popularly used to welcome people. The response to this greeting is 'Aloha' as well.
