What causes liver spots?

A liver spot is also known as a "lentigo." The plural is "lentigines." They are caused by sun damage, which accumulates throughout life. The older we get, the more we have of them. They can be bleached, or killed off with lasers or liquid nitrogen. However, they may come back, even it there is no more sun exposure.

Liver spots can come from too much sun exposure. When you get older, the skin on your hands thins and develops spots. That's why these spots are sometimes called old age spots.

These spots are not caused by the liver but are indicative of long-term sun exposure and damage. You might want to use sunscreen on your hands.

They say they come with age, which another name for them would be old age spots. I prefer them to be called liver spots instead of old age spots. Also they are brown like the color of your liver.
