Born in 1942, Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi; more commonly known as Colonel Gaddafi; is the current unofficial and de-facto leader of the African country of Libya. He came to power in September 1969 by staging a bloodless military coup against the leader of the time King Idris I, who was in Greece during the coup.
