Typically, brown periods will come at the start and end of a period. Sometimes, the color is from blood that is dried up from a previous period. The blood that comes at the end is sometimes dried because your increases a little at the end of your period to stop or dry up your period. Dehydration can cause this too.

Brown periods just means that the blood you are seeing is dried up and older and cramps are just part of periods. If its always brown, talk to a doctor.

Brown blood during your period is associated with old blood, if you are not having heavy flow you may in fact not be having a period.
