What can I do if my system restore fails?

Make sure that you have all the windows updates installed. The service pack 2 update fixes a flaw in the system restore program. Make sure you turn off all of the programs in your task bar (near your clock) before restoring, and run disk cleanup first.

There are to options. You can reformat the drive and start completely over from scratch. This means all your data will be lost. The other option is to send it to a recovery specialist and have them restore the drive along with you data. However some will be lost.

If system restore fails for the certain restore point, I choose another day to roll back to. Hopefully this will solve the problem. If this doesn't work, about the only thing you can do is try repairing windows with the cd.

It could be a number of problems. your restore disk could be damaged or you might just need to reformat your hard drive. So I would advise making a copy of the restore disk then trying it again or format your hard disk, or get someone to do it that knows how.

It depends on why you're doing a system restore. If it is because of a virus or something else that is preventing you from using your computer without the restore, your only option is to format your computer (if you can't get to antivirus software). If a virus isn't the problem, it's really a case by case basis.

If your system restore fails, then (if possible look for another restore point) you must fix it by using your operating system CD/DVD and boot your system from it. Then, you must select the repair windows option and it will go back to its defaults (your files should be there. )
