What can cause heavy bleeding while you're on birth control for a year?

Is the birth control just not working?

You body is probably adjusting to the birth control. It does not mean the birth control is not working, quite the opposite really. Your body's cycle and even how it handles ovulation is being changed and your body is adjusting. Over time the heavy flow will cease as birth control even regulates bleeding.

Heavy bleeding can be your body's way of adusting to the medication. It can indicate problems such as fibroid tumors. It is hard to determine if the medication is working.

Sometimes the heavy bleeding is actually caused by the birth control itself. Also as you get older your body changes which could also be the cause.
