Chronic pancreatitis in cats is most often treated with Fentanyl patches for pain and fluid therapy- administered by IV. Most importantly high protein and low fat diets must be given to contain ts should be kept as active as possible and veterinarian 'check-up', every 6 months, should be scheduled.

If medication has caused the pancreatitis then this is normally stopped then the vet will work to correct dehydration using supplemental fluids, provide pain relief, control the vomiting by medication or withholding food and water for 48 hrs, provide nutritional support and prevent complications although in rare cases surgery may be required if an abscess forms.

Since the pancreas is affected, quite obviously, diet is a major concern. The best way to decrease the pancreas' activity is by withholding food, water and or medications. This of course may cause dehydration which can be avoided by the introduction of fluids intravenously. Foods low in fat with highly digestible nutrients should be reintroduced in small quantities.

How chronic pancreatitis in cats is handled depends on the cause. If the cause is known, attempts should be made to deal with the cause itself. If the cause is unknown, supportive care (i. e. , maintaining hydration) is the primary method of dealing with the chronic pancreatitis.

Talk to your vet about the best way to handle it. Treatments vary between cats, so it's important you tailor the treatment to your specific cat. Treating chronic pancreatitis is also a lot of trial and error. Some things will work for your cat, some things won't. You have to experiment and see what works best for your cat.

The best thing is to give your cat a high fiber diet, take your cat to the vet and a lifestyle change.
