Assuming mostly on-road use, an all-season Michelin is the gold standard. They can be, however, very pricey. Good choices on the middle end would be Bridgestone, Firestone, and Goodyear. On the bargain end of things, both Kumho and Hankook make solid tires these days at very nice price points. The cheaper the tire, the faster they will wear, generally.

Virtually any reputable brand that makes tires that will fit will do you well. I recommend Goodyear, Kelly, Pirelli, or Michelin tires.

The original equipment tire brand / style usually are the best choice however there are many places online which will give you and rate all the tire choices.

Kumho and BFGoodrich are good but brand doesn't matter as much as the type of tire. If you want a tire for winter buy a snow tire. If you are an aggressive driver get a grippy sport tire. If you want good tire life get a general all year tire.

Most automobile manufacturers will tell you what tires they recommend. So check the owners manual and replace them with the recommend brand. If your vehicle is equipped with the AWD system be sure to replace all four tires at the same time to prevent drive-train damage.

You want to choose a brand that features a dependable tread and will not wear on one side. I would recommend Goodyear, but whichever you choose, steer away from Firestone as they have some undependable habits and potential to mess up the alignment on your Subaru Forrester (and any other car).

The best kind of tires for a car are going to touring tires. They are the best tires for all weather including rain and snow. Firestone and Goodyear make the best tires because they are all rubber and some tires slide because of the plastic in the tire.

I am considering either the Altimax R//T Altimax HP. The HPs have significantly much better ratings snow traction and modestly better ratings for wet conditions. Yet the R/Ts appear to have more sipping that than the HP which would suggest that the R/Ts would be better in water & snow.

I worked as a automotive customer service advisor for 5 years and what I learned is that there is no better tire than a Michelin.
