Thats the type of disc developed by Sony that is used for their PSP. Its basically a tiny DVD that can only be played on the PSP.

It is a disc that can hold 1.8 GB and it was originally created by Sony for the play station portable.

UMD's are created by Sony which are an unique type discs and has approximately 1.8gb capacity. Those discs are produced for Sony Playstations. Before UMD there were game cassettes, floppies but no discs. It is the first built disc for video games. The biggest handicap for UMD is there are not enough writers for it cause of its unique format.
