The system for belt ranking in Tae Kwon Do is: for beginning students white, orange and then yellow, for intermediate students green, blue and then purple and for advanced students brown and then red. The last belt in the system is black, it is the highest level you can achieve and anything beyond that signifies steps into mastership.
New students are given the white belt. Next is the yellow, then orange belt, which are given as skills are learned. Power development brings the green belt. Stabilization and controlling the power earns first a blue or purple, then brown belts. Maturity brings the red, and mastery brings the ten stages of the black belt (10th is posthumous).

The color belt system for Taekwondo varies from school to school. At our school it is white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, blue senior (blue w/black stripe), brown belt, brown senior (brown with a red stripe), red belt, red senior, (red with a black stripe) red executive (2 black stripes) and then Black.
Purely depends on your form, tradition and style. At my club we have white from beginner then yellow, blue, red then black each belt has three stages with stripes on the belt of the next colour eg. yellow 3blue stripes
Once black is reached it continues until 10th dan
The colors start out at white then go to yellow, orange, green, blue/purple, brown, red, then black. You also get stripes on each belt after you accomplish each task. After you get 3 stripes on each belt is when you then get to move up to the next belt color.
