The most expensive retail real estate in the U.S. (and in the world) is in NYC on Fifth Avenue north of 49th. Tenants like Abercrombie & Fitch, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci and The Gap pay $1300/sq ft/year. The Meadowlands (New Jersey), scheduled to open mid-2011, is set to be the most expensive mall space when finished, tho rates are TBA.

It is likely that malls in Beverly Hills, downtown San Francisco and Miami Beach charge the most per square foot for leasing. The cost would reflect the cost of living.
