Number symbolism is important in biblical teaching and in understanding the Bible itself. The number 40 usually signifies a time of separation, challenge or preparation. The number 7 represents spiritual perfection. Interestingly, 7 and forms of it (7th, 70, etc.) each appear in multiples of 7 within the Bible.

The number seven is notable for a number of reasons. In ancient Egypt, it was a symbol of eternal life. It was also associated with Apollo in ancient Greece.
