Prednisone made my dog extremely tired and act like she was drunk or high. I know she did not want to get out of the bed some days and she would barely eat or drink water. She is fine now so it was not permanent.

Prednisone is a corticosteroid (an anti-inflammatory) and is used by veterinarians to treat a wide variety of conditions. Ideally, when medications are prescribed to your pet, your veterinarian will take the time to explain the medication's purpose to you. - Most commonly Prednisone is used short term to control allergies or diarrhea.

Use of prednisone over a long period of time, like 6 months or more, can be dangerous. It can cause liver problems, kidney problems, and eventually death.
