Some styles offer rankings differently. Im a 3rd degree seior black belt instructor in southern style Tiger-Crane Kung Fu. My teacher/sifu's belt system progresses at six month minimum intervals: beginning at white belt, then yellow dot/stripe, yellow belt, orange belt, green belt, blue belt, brown belt (minimum one year), and then black. After black, red stripes/notches represent degrees of black.

Different styles of kung fu has different types of belts. Some dont even use belts at all. You need to be more specific about what type of kung fu you are interested in. If this is something your really interested in I would recomment talking to an actual instructor in your area.

Belt colors are HIGHLY dependent on the style, school, and instructor. Some styles don't have any belts. Some have only white and black. Some have white, brown, and black.
