Basic categories are traditional "iron" sights, with a rear notch or hole and a front post, electronic "red dot" sights (not at all the same thing as laser sights as seen in movies), laser sights (not very common, they look cool on film but have major drawbacks), and telescopic sights ("scopes"). Sometimes a rifle will have more than one kind.

There are a few different types. Most rifles come with iron sights which involve lining up two posts on a rifle. There are also scopes.

Well there are different kind of sights that exist. You can have some telescopic sights that also range from laser sights. And you may also find some iron sights. There are different types that exist and an all inclusive list can be found on wikipedia by searching the term rifle sights.

Many-rifles are equipped with either: aperature or open, front & rear "iron" sights; as well as a mounting rail for either: telescopic-optical (with aiming reticle) or laser sights. Aperature or open "iron" sights work by lining up marks/openings in front & rear sights. Telescopic/optical by lining up a reticle's center markings. Laster by lining up projected dot on target.
