Many great decorations could be obtained for free or cheaply. Flowers, and flowing cloths for table decor. You shouldn't overdo things or it will look tacky.
Buy some inexpensive plastic goblets and plates; spray-paint them gold and stick on plastic jewels from a craft store. Print out portraits of Renaissance-era royalty and "frame" them with a gold-painted cardbroad frame.
