Yes, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann was a German breeder who created the Dobermann Pinscher in the late nineteenth century. When Dobermann died in 1894, the Germans named the breed after him. Pinscher means "terrier" in German.

Doberman's are named after Louis Doberman of Germany, who began breeding the dog from two different but unknown breeds in the 1800's.
