Should I be concerned that my oil burner is producing smoke?

Its fairly typical for an old oil burner to occasionally puff out smoke, now if its a hazardous amount, i would call a tech.

First yes! Fuel furnaces will produce a slight hue from the flue pipe when burning correctly. Smoke, particularly from the unit itself, indicates secondary burning. It can come from leakage around the orifice, or residue that's built over the years. Improper fuel pressure or sub-grade fuel can cause the same symptoms. Have it serviced immediately.
