Is there a way to make paninis without a panini grill?

A panini is basically a toasted sandwich. I put the meat on my sandwich, then the cheese. Then I place both slices of bread directly on the rack of my toaster oven at 450 degrees for about 7-10 minutes. Take it out, apply dressings and veggies and there you are.

One way is to toast the sandwich in a pan with another pan on top, flipping it over to brown the other side.
