Yes, the $2 and 1/2 dollar coin existed in the United States during the 1908 to 1929 era. It is better known as the $2 and 1/2 Indian Head Gold Coin. It is about as small and as thin as a dime. The head shows an Indian man, and the tail shows an eagle.

To my knowledge a 2 and 1/2 dollar coin does not exist. Only a one-half dollar coin (worth 50 cents) does exist--but I think no longer newly made.
