The United States is the "land of opportunity", and, in my opinion, it's the greatest place in the world for equality.

Not possible in a well-established society. As long as people retain some of their possessions and pass them down through their family tree after death then there will always be some starting life with more. The best education is the great equalizer, but that is only available to those who can be provided for before providing for themselves.
