One trick is to make sure you keep them pruned to a compact size and make sure you don't overwater the plant. You should definitely check a gardening book out first to make sure that they will do well in your climate and area or ask at the shop.

An Italian Cypress up to 6' tall can be grown in 24" diameter and deep pot. As the tree grows, it will need to be repotted into a bigger container.

Well I see your question has been answered but I thought you might wanna know that spider mites LOVE this particular plant. Since you are going to grow your Italian cypress in a large pot it should be easy to keep them pest free just by using an insecticidal soap :-)

Reply by MagicallyMe (37):
The mites can be washed off also just by used a strong stream of water from the garden hose. It is effective and safe. If it doesn't work for the gardener then they can resort to using a chemical or a solution of liquid soap and water to spray.  add a comment

Yes it is perfectly okay. But the problem is if it grows too large, then even that pot won't be enough.

You can grow them in containers if you know what you're doing and are willing to put in extra work liketrimming, root clipping,As long as its a 2 foot pot.

Yes there is no problem with groing it in a large pot. In nature it grows in the earth which could be thought of as the largest of pots.

Yes, Cypress are very slow growing and can be grown in large containers in a sunny location. Because they come from the Mediterranean, keep them indoors in the winter, in a cool room. They are drought tolerant, so do not overwater. They can be planted in anything from a ten gallon to a sixty-five gallon container.
