There is a certain amount of pain associated with root canals. You should be on antibiotics to kill any infection(s) that you may have in your body. This pain could be an actual sign of infection which can be life threatening. See your dentist if the pain continues or gets worse. Take all of the antibiotics prescribed to you.

No. The root canal procedure is meant to remove all of the pulp inside the canals of the tooth's roots and to remove the infection from the tooth. If pain persists for an extended period of time there may be complications and you should call your dentist right away.
