Is ability grouping in schools discrimination?

Doesn't it keep people with lower abilities from bringing themselves up?

If done with great care, it should not be discrimination. It should allow a student in a lower ability group to succeed at his own pace without feeling like he is behind the others. He should get the specific attention he needs without sharing it with higher ability students.

For me that is discrimination. It makes the people with low self esteem and learning problems not want to try hard. Because the feeling is you are not worth our trying to help you do better. I for one felt the school set by example, that you are a second hand person for not being bright enough.
