If the ultrasound says that I am 9 weeks pregnant, is that the fetal age or the gestation age?

That is the gestation age. So you would be through 9 weeks of the 40 week in a full term pregnancy. If this does not match with your expected due date your doctor may move your due date to match up with the ultrasound results. They will usually only change your date is it is more than a week off.

That would be the gestation age. Weeks during pregnancy are calculated by the date of the start of your last period. Therefore, if you were nine weeks along, you fetus would actually be somewhere between five to seven weeks old.

Since the ultrasound is virtually seeing the baby, the doctor can measure the head and length, then it is referring to the fetal age: actual day of conception.

wrong. dont tell people things youre unsure of. it measures the age of the baby, gestational age, first day of the last menstrual period. they dont pinpoint conception.  add a comment

The standard is to calculate the gestational age based on the last menstrual period. An ultrasound consistent with 9 weeks is the same as 7 weeks fetal age.
