Question by  fechols (1)

If a cockatiel's tail feathers are pulled out, is it normal for it to shy away and sleep a lot?

I'm concerned about the change in my bird's behavior.

How did the feathers come out? Was it a mishandling? It is possible he is now shying away from humans to protect himself. Otherwise I would assume it is simply malting time, and he will get better soon! They do sleep a lot when they malt.

When the bird is pulling out its feathers, it means she or he is stressed out. Alternatively, it could be sick and need treatment.

There are babies that talk when they are pulled from the nest.,The undertail covert feathers short feathers under the base of the main tail Because the Cockatiel is a bit shy and will attach itself to people it knows, so no to pull the feathers does not make them shy or sleep
