The Canon PowerShot S2IS contains a 12x optical zoom (36 – 432mm f/2.7-f.3.5). The Canon PowerShot S2IS has extremely fast, responsive zooming. If the optional conversion lenses are used, the optical zoom range increases from 12x to 24x. Without the conversion lenses, the Canon PowerShot S2IS has a combined 48x digital and optical zoom.

This camera has a 12x optical zoom; 1.8-inch vari-angle LCD display that really beats the standard in most cameras and comes in really handy for detailed shots.

the cannon power shot, S2IS, successor to the S1IS, has 12x optical zoom, with a digital zoom of 4x, it can in effect zoom upto a pretty decent 12 by 4 = 48x zoom. So the zoom will no longe be a problem for getting that awesome close-up of the moon.

The Canon Powershot S2IS zooms to 2.8mm. That's not bad for a compact and easily accessable camera. The shots are crisp and clear.
