The retail mark-up really depends on the company, the product and rather it is on sale. If it costs the business $5 to buy a product and they sell it to you for $10. The mark-up is 100%. If they buy the product for $10 and sell it for $10 the retail mark-up is 0.

That depends on the efficiency of the business model used by any specific business. Some businesses produce fungible goods in such a volume that the retail mark up is fractional cents. Other items, such as luxury yachts, have multiplicative mark up to appeal to the target market.
