How many songs should be on song lists for weddings?

You want plenty of songs you think appropriate for the occasion, in the order you want them played. You probably will not get through them all, but that's ok.

My wedding DJ recommended that we pick the required songs - first dance, last song, father/daughter, and mother/son and then we just discussed with him the types of music we liked and specific artists. This way he could play a variety based on our preferences. It was very stress free.

I think that about 20-40 songs should be on a song list for a wedding. If you play more than that then the wedding would be too long of a wedding and people would get tired of dancing.

You can choose your favorite and most meaningful songs for your wedding song list, than if you have a dj playing music you can have them choose the rest of the songs according to what is popular at the time, or what they normally play at weddings.
