When performing CPR on an adult, the American Heart Association advises to give two breaths then fifteen compressions. The compressions should be fast. The newest way to time the compressions is to perform them while humming the Bee Gee's Song from the disco era, 'Staying Alive". This will give the proper number of compressions to sustain life.

When giving CPR, you must give two full breaths to child and adult if not breathing. If pulse is present give 12 breaths per minute, while spontaneous breathing is not present. Give 12 to 20 breaths in infant and children. With one rescuer give 30 compressions for infant, children and adult. Depth of compression varies in infant/children and adult.
