It's very basic; done the same way your computer connects to the internet and transfers data. This transfer of data is called 'packets' when you speak into the phone your voice is transmitted through the internet in the form of a packet, same as with the person on the other end is talking. This transfer is instantaneous.

Well net to phone is basically just sending a text message from the internet to your phone. Or atleast that is what I think and have heard about this. You just enter the information for your cell phone friend's number and also provider of their wireless service. It's simple very simple.
