How does a nail puncture a tire?

A nial punturces a tire just like it gets hammered into wood with ease. there is a sharp piont which catches the thread of the tire, then as the tire rotates the nail is forced though the rubber and deep into the stell belts spliting them apart and causing the tire to leak.

When a tire runs over a nail the point pushes through the rubber layer and then through the steel belts. This creates a hole for air to escape out.

A tire is designed with strands or threads of material such as steel within the rubber that you see when looking at it. None of these materials are "solid" due the need to flex while a vehicle is operating. Because of this construction it's easy for a nail to penetrate the tire, stranding you on the side of the road.

A tire consists of a rubber coverings layers of metal wire. There is a metal band around both side creating an air tight seal. When a car run over a nail or other object the sharp edge or tip pierces through the tire pushing the rubber to the side. This creates a hole and allows the pressurized air to escape.
