Mix about 1 pound of salt to 16 ounces of boiling water to dissolve. Pour into a container. Take a piece of thread tied to a stick that will lay over the container, allowing the string to hang to the bottom. When the water evaporates you have salt crystals.

Dissolve salt in boiling water, pour the supersaturated solution into a clean container, allow the solution to cool, then hang the seed crystal in the solution from a pencil or knife placed across the top of the container,set the container in a location where it can remain undisturbed, allow the crystal to grow slowly in a place free of vibrations.
