How do you get a license to do nails?

Check first with your state but most states require a license that would also include doing hair. Also most states require you carry insurance since you are dealing directly with people. Our state has a program that is 18 months long, but this includes hair too. If nails is your passion pursue it.

You would get a cosmetology license to legally practice. You can also get them in hair, make-up etc. You should be able to get it through an adult ed program.

In order to get a license to do nails, you normally have to go to beauty school. Beauty schools usually combine learning how to work with hair when they teach you nails. However, you might be able to find a vocational school that will offer nail courses and certificates specifically.
