Have someone hold your parrot on it's back. Spread out the wings. Use a sharp pair of sissors to cut the first five flight feathers. Repeat to other side.

First you need a good sharp pair of scissors. Then you confine the bird what ever way is easiest for you to have access to the wings but not end up bitten or scratched. Extend her wings, then cut the first three blue feathers up to the secondary row of green ones. Only do this if they are full grown.

Clipping a birds wings is not difficult, but you must be careful not to sever the wings or damage any blood vessels. Looking up 'how to clip birds wings' will show you a diagram of which feathers - the flight feathers - to clip, and how. Alternatively, a vet can clip wings for a small charge.

Would you cut off a dogs legs to stop it running away? Clipping any birds wings is not fair on the bird. They can still be taken with a gust of wind, please don't clip your bird, just close the windows and doors.

It will be a good idea to watch someone for a couple of times clipping wings. Examine the underside of both wings With someone else holding the parrots back spread out the wing. top side will have to set of feathers cut the first 5-6 flights feathers right at the point of the actual feather.
