On most cars there is something called a tensioner pulley. Find the tensioner pulley, and attach the correct socket with a large ratchet or breaker bar to the bolt on the pulley. Pull up or down (whichever way loosens the pulley) which will release the tension on the belt; pull off the belt and put the new one on.

Depending on make and model of your vehicle, the serpentine belt may require special tools.Very many serpentine belts are easily changed with nothing more than a wrench.Make sure that you have a belt routing diagram before you begin, locate the belt tensioner ,manual may be helpful, and use wrench to move the tensioner in,usually a counter-clockwise direction then remove belt.

Start by locating your idler pulley. The process for loosening it varies by manufacture so look online or by a manual to see how. Once loosened the belt slides off.

The hardest part of changing the belt is to remember how it goes back on, look at the belt and take a picture. Find the tension pulley, it will be spring loaded, back the pressure off the belt, and remove the old belt. Re-thread the new belt through the pulleys the same way as the old one and reapply tension
