How do I replace an EGR valve in my Mazda Protege?

Unhook the hoses and electrical connections on the valve. Unbolt the old valve with 12mm wrench. Attach hoses and electrical connections to the new valve and bolt it on.

Purchase a new part from the parts store or dealership. Locate EGR valve and unplug the lines to it. Remove old EGR valve. Replace EGR valve and gasket. Plug in the lines and verify fix.

Disconnect the battery first. Unhook Hoses and wires connected to the valve. Remove the bolts of EGR valve with 12mm socket wrench. Then remove the EGR tube from the valve. Now replace the new valve and bolt the valve and attach tubes,wires. Connect the battery and have test drive.

Depending on the year it will vary. Usually it is located on the top of the exhaust manifold. Disconnect any lines that may be attached then unbolt and remove it.
