How do I level a lawn?

In order to minimize the disturbance to existing grass and plantings, and to ensure that you don't have to worry about leaving too little top soil in place, it is better to add good quality fill dirt to the low places than to dig out the high places.

I have been doing the same thing to put up a pool. I finally called in a professional. Have it dug level then use lots of grass seed.

my dad just did an area in his yard and he used orange sand. which has more nutriant in it, and also his composet; mixed the 2 and placed it on the ground and leveled it out; then repeated the process with topsoil, this will build up the ground.

If there isn't much difference between the highs and lows, the easiest way is to simply fill in the low spots with top soil.

Sand is your best choice. I recommend you not to try and build it up all at once. Level the yard with sand you will get the best results.
