Ten-year old's crave doing "real" things. Get your child involved in the kitchen and making choices at the produce department at your grocery store. Take them to the farmer's market if you are lucky enough to have one nearby. Fussy eaters may have tactile issues with foods -- mushy, gummy, etc. Talk about that without judgment and try to accommodate.

Try saying this food is only for grown ups and then take a bite and say, "Can't wait until you're old enough to try this." He'll ask for a bite!

I'm not sure that a "fussy" eater should be required to try new foods. Some foods just don't appeal to everyone. Sometimes hiding it in foods they like can help.
