How can you tell if a shepherd pup is full blood?

The only way to really know is to check his papers. If he isn't documented there is no way to check it.

Without papers, from a recognized organization there isn't any way to be 100% sure. Recently some companies have started selling DNA testing kits for dogs but those start around 100 $ and are require you send the sample in to a lab. Their accuracy is still not that goos yet.

If you contact the american kennel club you can get tests done where you take some of your dogs hair with the roots on and you send it to a lab. They will tell you if your dog is a purebred.

All breeds have standard characteristics and the AKC has a list of specifics for each breed. Your vet would be able to tell you if your shepherd is a pure breed and could probably provide you with some documentation if that is needed.
