The plants can grow wild in Central America and in Mexico mostly in rain forests there the habitat gives the Poinsettia the right living condition it needs to survive.

Yes, they grow in South America outside all year round. In very warm climates in the US (e.g. Florida) they can be grown outside in a sheltered location. They do not have bright red leaves when grown like this. They must be propagated and kept in a green house to develop the red leaves.
