having twins is indeed a genetic thing, but identical twins is more so. fraternal twinning happens when 2 diferent eggs get fertilized so its less likely to be inhereted. if a pair is identical twins they will most likely have twins themselves for children.

There has been a rise in multiples in pregnancy due to increased technology used in reproduction. That being said, some twins are a result of genetics. If your family has a history of twins, you are more likely to have twins.
